Animal Lab

The National Veterinary Lab for Malta fulfils several important roles to fulfil the National Reference Laboratory for all animal diseases under EU legislation and for Residues of veterinary drugs and contaminants of food of animal origin. The firm was entrusted to propose the design of a new facility, following the need for the lab to expand.

The proposed design entails a complex with extensive landscaping works, with an emphasis on the program of the spaces and technical requirements to create a building which is tailor made for this specific use. The project provided several challenges which turned into opportunities to attempt a near zero carbon building. The complex contains the lab at ground floor, whilst a myriad of administrative uses and outdoor spaces are utilised at the upper floor.
