Zawia Junction, Libya

This consisted of 3 intersections, 2 of which were constructed in the early eighties, with the central town intersection undertaken in the mid-eighties. The initial two intersections were the entrance into the town of Zawia off the link road from Tripoli, whilst the 2nd intersection fed into the oil refinery of Sabrata from the other end of Zawia.

The main bridge deck was in built up steel composite beams of 30m span, whilst the adjoining supporting 16m spans were undertaken in standard rolled steel composite sections with a reinforced concrete deck.  The abutments, wing walls and bridge deck piers founded on sand were  all detailed in reinforced concrete.
